Summary

I am a First Class Education Studies undergraduate at the University of Derby, specialising in Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs). I am also a multi-award winning campaigner, British Dyslexia Association(BDA) Ambassador, Social Entrepreneur and trainer with a deep rooted interest in the field of dyslexia and other Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs).

I am fiercely passionate about promoting inclusion and the benefits of neuro-diversity within schools, in Further Education, Higher Education and the employments sector. I pride myself on empowering and inspiring children and adults whose brains are wired differently, have physical disabilities or impairments and challenges within Mental Health. Having had a horrendous experience in education myself as a result of unidentified Dyslexia and Irlen Syndrome, like many before and after me, I left with no useful qualifications. This changed significantly however at age 26 when I turned my life around when expecting my first child. Since then I have gained a raft of qualifications and now I use my knowledge and experiences to train and advise learners, parents, educators and employers. 

Through my work I have won 5 prestigious awards including the East Midlands Adult Learner's Week Award (2012), the University of Derby's Volunteer of the Year Award (2014) and Equality and Diversity Award (2014) . In September 2014, I was extremely proud to have been endorsed by 372 people to win the ‘Positive Role Model for Disability’ category at the UKs largest National Diversity Awards after being shortlisted from 21, 000 nominations. Most recently I was announced as the winner of Derby and Derbyshire’s Inspirational Woman of the Year (2015) in the Community, Voluntary and Charity sector for my relentless dedication to my studies and the work I have done to improve the learning and life experiences of hundreds of dyslexic children and adults throughout the UK.
